Is it a demanding job?
Yes, it is physically demanding. The job requires moving and positioning patient’s bodies and equipment.
Do I have to talk to patients?
Yes, sound communication skills are vital in dealing with patients and various health professionals.
Is there an exam at the end of the program?
Yes, a score of 75 or higher on the ARRT (national certification exam) is required to become a registered radiologic technologist.
Do I only have to work in a hospital?
Employment opportunities are not limited to just hospitals, they also include doctor’s offices, clinics and imaging centers. There are employment possibilities for people outside direct patient imaging such as administration, education, equipment sales and service.
Do I have to stay in Guilford County?
No, there are opportunities for employment all over the country and while they do include Guilford County they are not limited to it.
Is there a waiting list to get into the program? No, Radiography is a limited enrollment program at GTCC and the criteria is listed here: http://degreeprograms.gtcc.edu/radiography/
I did not get in last year can I reapply?
Yes, a new MAR is needed for each year that a student is applying for the program. Criteria for admission to the program can change, the student will use the criteria that is being used for that year only.
I did not get in can I still be a GTCC student?
Yes, you will be placed in Associate in General Education which is a 2 year transfer degree program. Click here
I only have college Science and English can I still apply to the program?
The program selection is based strictly on the points system in the Admissions Criteria. The more points a student accumulates the better chance they have of being selected. However, the minimum requirements are a college Science and to be eligible to take college English.
I took the TEAS at another school, is it valid at GTCC?
As long as the version is the same (currently version 5) then GTCC will accept a TEAS score taken at another institution.
I am not a GTCC student can I apply?
Yes, once a current application is on file and all transcripts are evaluated a student who has never taken a class at GTCC has the same criteria to gain admittance to the program as GTCC students. Transfer credit must come from a Regionally Accredited Institution and be the courses used in the ranking process. Click here
